Craigslist, the Web's largest classified advertising site, said on Wednesday that it would close its erotic services category, which critics have said is a forum that fosters prostitution and other illegal activities. Providence Mayor Wants New Tax On College Students To Ease City's Financial Deficit PDF Print E-mail

The mayor of Providence wants to slap a $150-per-semester tax on the 25,000 full-time students at Brown University and three other private colleges in the city, saying they use resources and should help ease the burden on struggling taxpayers. If enacted, it would apparently be the first time a U.S. city has directly taxed students just for being enrolled.

Landmark ACLU Rendition Case To Go Forward PDF Print E-mail

This traumatizing search was based solely on the false and uncorroborated accusation of a classmate who was caught with similar pills. Overzealous school officials violated Savana's rights and called into question basic constitutional protections for all students in schools across America.

This incident will likely culminate in a high-profile lawsuit that could change the way similar situations are handled in the future. If it weren't for this man's decision to flex his rights, there's no question that the officers he encountered would be out there right now abusing other people, instead of being investigated for civil rights violations.
